Where should we point our radio telescopes?
- Targeted search of nearby stars:
Aim at solar-type stars (of similar heavy atom composition) that should harbor
reasonably sized habitable zones for planets. Currently studies are
targeting stars closer than 200 light years away.
- All-sky survey:
Some extraterrestrial civilizations may use high-powered transmissions, and
these could be detected from the furthest portions of the Milky Way Galaxy.
