Notes:
2015-03-20:
Portions of the recordings of the 2015-03-07 and 2015-03-08 concerts are now
available. Due to problems with the recording apparatus, only the left
channels of the Brown and Ravel were recorded on the 2015-03-07 concert. A
stereo effect was added using the defaults of the pseudo-stereo plugin in
"Audacity". It's a simple plugin taking only 3 inputs, the original source
channel, a delay factor, and a mix ratio. The defaults give a little depth to
the recording.
2014-11-20:
Recordings of the 2014-11-15 and 2014-11-16 concerts are now available.
2014-05-17:
Recordings of the 2014-04-27 concert are now available. Note that around 3
minutes into the second track of the Tchaikovsky, a child melts down near the
microphone. I did my best to lower the influence of the disruption, but it's
still pretty prominent.
2014-04-03:
Recordings of both the 2014-03-01 and 2014-03-02 concerts are now available.
The 2014-03-01 concert recording came to me as 48kHz, 24-bit wave files, so the
generated MP3s maintain the higher sampling rate. All but the most ancient of
MP3-playing utilities and hardware will play these. If you are unable to play
them, let me know -- I can re-sample them. This concert recording has a
higher dynamic range, so you may have to fiddle with the volume knob more when
listening in the car :-). The 2014-03-02 concert recording came to me as
traditional CDDA (Compact Disc Digital Audio -- 44.1kHz, 16-bit). The files I
ripped off the CDs appear to have a lower dynamic range compared to the
2014-03-01 concert files; the upside being, they're easier to listen to in the
car.
2013-11-28:
Recordings of both the 2013-11-16 and 2013-11-17 concerts are now available.
Due to problems with the recording apparatus, only the left channels of the
Verdi and Beethoven were recorded on the 2013-11-17 concert. A stereo effect
was added using the defaults of the pseudo-stereo plugin in "Audacity". It's
a simple plugin taking only 3 inputs, the original source channel, a delay
factor, and a mix ratio. The defaults give a little depth to the recording.
2013-05-14:
Recordings of the 2013-05-11 concert are now available. Due to limitations
on recording time, only the works with orchestra were recorded. Also,
technical issues led to the Gloria recording here being a hybrid, some of the
parts are from the 2013-05-10 performance, and some from the 2013-05-11
performance.
2013-04-26:
Recordings of both the 2013-04-20 and 2013-04-21 concerts are now available.
2013-03-10:
Recordings of both the 2013-03-02 and 2013-03-03 concerts are now available.
The right channels on the 2013-03-03 Humperdinck and Muczynski were seriously
attenuated and therefore unusable. The left channel was duplicated to the
right, and reverb of subtly different parameters were added to each channel to
give a bit of a stereo effect.
2013-01-10:
Recordings of both the 2012-12-01 and 2012-12-02 concerts are now available.
2012-04-04:
Recordings of both the 2012-03-03 and 2012-03-04 concerts are now available.
Also available are Quicktime videos of both concerts. Like the videos from the
2011-11-19 concert, these files are huge, so use some discretion downloading
them. The Oxy videos are shot from a single point, probably from about the
10th row, left side of the auditorium (from the audience perspective), at about
stage level. Consequently, only the outside first violins, soloists, and
conductor are reasonably visible. The Caltech videos are shot from a similar
audience perspective as the Oxy ones. Since the Caltech stage is much lower,
much more of the orchestra is visible.
2012-04-03:
Quicktime videos of the 2011-11-19 concert are now available. Follow the links
near the MP3 download links. The video files are huge (about 50-55 MB per
minute of video), so it may not be practical to download the whole concert.
2012-02-01:
Concert recordings from the 2011-11-19 concert are now available.
2012-01-25:
Concert recordings from the 2011-11-20 concert are now available.
2011-03-09:
Concert recordings from the 2011-02-26 concert are now available. There were
some unrecoverable recording errors in the last minute of the Brahms 3rd
movement and the first 2 minutes of the 4th movement. These manifest as
short-duration background clicks.
2010-12-21:
Links to all previously available concert recordings are now available
(sporadically, back to March 2001). See
previous concerts page. Concerts are in
reverse chronological order. Please report any broken links to me.
2010-12-01:
At present, there is no 2010-11-14 version of the Shostakovich
Passacaglia/Burlesca track. Check back regularly, it will be posted as soon
as it becomes available.
