2007 Feb Moving the Michelson Beam

  • The shipping crate is ready and waiting.
  • First, a practice run with a long plastic pole.
  • Then a discussion on how it needs to done.
  • It had to be lifted from the top....
  • ... and the bottom.
  • Here it goes! Hope the 4x2 can hold it.
  • Eric is watching everything carefully.
  • Few! The 1200 pound beam is relatively safe and on the supports.
  • OK, one two three lift!
  • Out she goes.
  • Through the door.
  • All the way outside.
  • TaDa!
  • For the rest of the lift, we borrowed a back hoe from the TV guys.
  • Into the crate... Eric is still watching carefully.
  • In and ready to ship to New York and the Natural History Museum.
