Potentially Helpful Travel Info
Airport
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (code: ATL) is a major hub
for Delta and Southwest Airlines. The airport is located in the
southwest corner of the metropolitan
area. http://www.atl.com/
Ground transportation
Train: The simplest way to reach GSU campus and nearby
hotels is to take the MARTA rail system. Fare cards can be purchased
at the machines just outside baggage claim in the domestic terminal of
the airport (round-trip fare is $5, plus $2 for a reloadable fare
card). Fares are assessed per ride, regardless of length of trip.
The ride from the airport to downtown is approximately 25 minutes.
All trains departing from the airport will make stops in downtown
Atlanta. Peachtree Center Station is the stop that is nearest to the
Department of Physics and Astronomy, as well as the hotels listed as
suggested lodging options. Route maps, fares, and schedules can be
found at
www.itsmarta.com.
Taxi: Taxis are available at the taxi stand outside the
airport. Fares to downtown Atlanta are a flat rate of $30, with an
additional $2 per passenger. Fares to other locations are metered.
Uber/Lyft: Effective 1 January 2017, rideshare companies
are allowed to pick up passengers at ATL airport. An additional fee
of $3.85, on top of the general service fare, is assessed for airport
taxes.
Rental Cars
Most of the usual rental car companies operate out of
Hartsfield-Jackson airport. Parking at downtown hotels is generally
subject to a daily fee.
There is campus parking for visitors in the T Deck next door to the
Department of Physics and Astronomy. The current parking rate is
$7/day. More information can be found on this page.
